Our Corporate Sustainability Strategy complies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations (UN).
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

Als Hersteller von hochwertigen Produkten legen wir allergrössten Wert auf einen transparenten Herstellungsprozess und vollständige Nachverfolgbarkeit. Das beste Beispiel dazu ist unsere Bio-Baumwolle in Ägypten, die wir von der Saat bis zum fertigen Gewebe in der Schweiz lückenlos begleiten. Die Prozesse werden durch unabhängige Stellen überprüft und laufend verfeinert.
Wir arbeiten dazu auch an Projekten, welche die Blockchain-Technologie nutzen sowie am Einsatz von DNA-Markern, um eine direkte Verfolgbarkeit unserer Rohstoffe und Gewebe bis zum fertigen Produkt zu gewährleisten.

Unsere Bio-Baumwollfelder in Ägypten
Im Frühjahr 2018 haben wir damit begonnen, unsere eigene Bio-Baumwolle der Sorte GIZA in Ägypten anzubauen. Mit dieser vertikalen Integration der Lieferkette setzen wir neue Maßstäbe in Bezug auf Nachverfolgbarkeit, überprüfbarer Qualität und Nachhaltigkeit.
Bereits im Oktober 2018 fand die erste Ernte in Damietta statt. Dabei wurde die biologisch angebaute, exklusivste Baumwollsorte, GIZA 45, von Hand geerntet. Die Baumwollfelder wurden anhand ihrer Kombination von Nährstoffen im Boden, Niederschlag, Sonnenstunden und Luftfeuchtigkeit ausgewählt, um die beste Qualität der jeweiligen Baumwollsorte erreichen zu können.
2019 wurde der Anbau auf drei Sorten ausgeweitet.

ANIMAL WELFARE
Species-appropriate and respectful animal husbandry is indispensable. We require standards such as the Responsible Wool Standard, which guarantee animal welfare.
With our association for sustainable sheep husbandry, the «Sponsors of weba-Merinos in Appenzell», we want to promote species-appropriate and respectful animal husbandry.
WE ARE STEP BY OEKO-TEX® CERTIFIED
STeP by OEKO TEX® is an independent certification system for companies within the textile chain who want to communicate their sustainable production conditions transparently and credibly.
Weba Switzerland and weba Egypt are STeP by OEKO TEX® certified since 2013 and were therefore the first weaving mills worldwide to be STeP certified.
With both weaving mills we reached the highest level 3 (= Ideal implementation in the sense of Best Practice examples) in rating.
OUR ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT
To reduce our CO2 emissions, we have joined the the voluntary programme of a Swiss Industry Association (EnAW). With several already implemented measures, we achieved annual carbon savings of xy%.
In Switzerland 100% of our electricity is made from renewable energy sources. By using and supporting energy from renewable sources, we reduce air pollutant and greenhouse gas emission.
